Hi my name is Daniela and I have set up this fundraising page to help my best friend Sandra and her beautiful family - her husband, Loris and their two boys, Alex and Daniel.

Our world fell apart in October 2025. It started off with Sandra suffering with headaches and double vision. The MRI scan revealed a significant tumour in her brain stem and she was sent to the emergency department at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney. Following a biopsy and after a very agonising wait, we received the shocking news that Sandra has an aggressive brain tumour, known as a Diffuse Midline Glioma with H3K27 gene mutation, along with Leptomeningeal Disease as it has spread. This diagnosis has been a devastating blow for Sandra and her family. Sandra is only 46 years of age and has so much to live for. Sadly, the prognosis for anyone with high-grade glioma, particularly in the brain stem is not good. Due to location, it is unable to be surgically removed.

Sandra has undergone 33 sessions of radiation, 4 surgeries and countless tests. Despite this, the tumour remains large and aggressively growing. Sandra has kept positive and determined. At this stage the best treatment required to relieve symptoms and prolong life is only available though a trial drug called ONC201. Unfortunately, Sandra does not qualify for the trial even after multiple applications. The drug, however can be accessed privately at an expensive weekly cost.

We are therefore looking to raise funding to enable Sandra to receive the best possible medication for this horrible disease. Medication that will slow down progression and give Sandra more quality time with her family.

Speed is of the essence as these tumours are sadly very aggressive and grow fast.
