Hello, my name is Mercedesz, and I am fundraising for my partner, Sandor. I created this fundraiser in the hope of easing some of our financial stress and helping provide the essential disability equipment and support he needs to live more comfortably.
Sandor is 28 years old and a loving father to our beautiful 3-year-old daughter. He is the kindest, most caring, and most hardworking person I have ever known. Despite a very difficult childhood, he built a new life here in the UK over the past nine years—working, getting engaged, and becoming a devoted dad.
Sadly, our lives changed forever in August 2020 when Sandor was rushed to A&E and diagnosed with end-stage kidney disease. He required urgent dialysis and treatment for pericardial effusion. Since then, he has been on dialysis five times a week—treatment that leaves him in constant pain and fatigue.
Over the past few years, he has faced countless complications: with emergency surgeries, as well as blood transfusions due to infection and bleeding in his arteriovenous fistula. We nearly lost him three times.
On 22/09/2015 he unfortunately had to go back in the hospital with a new swelling, severe pain and bleeding in his arteriovenous fistula, despite the medical team’s best efforts, Sandor’s arm could not be saved and had to be amputated the next day. This has been an incredibly painful and life-changing moment for him, for me, and for our daughter. He now suffers from severe phantom pain and is struggling to adjust emotionally to this new reality.
As his partner, I am stepping fully into the role of caregiver, which means I have had to leave work. Altough the NHS is doing a wonderful job in supporting us, they are unable to provide all the equipment and adaptations Sandor now urgently needs.
We are raising funds to help with:
An automatic vehicle.
Daily living expenses while I care for Sandor and our daughter full time.
Additional support needs following his amputation, such as prosthetic-related equipment and home adjustments.
I am also in the process of becoming a living kidney donor for Sandor, which involves months of hospital appointments and procedures. We continue to hold onto hope for a brighter future together.
Every donation, no matter how small, makes a real difference to us. If you are unable to give, please consider sharing our story or keeping us in your thoughts.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for reading about Sandor’s journey and for supporting us through the most difficult time of our lives.
