Sandi's Cancer Battle

I met Sandi almost 11 years ago when my family and I moved to Indialantic, FL. We met and formed an instant bond, and as you all know, Sandi is EVERYONE's friend. Sandi's light, energy, and positive spirit instantly make people feel at home.

A couple of months ago, I was clued in that Sandi started to have unusual pain and decided to get checked out. After several tests and biopsies, the doctors confirmed the worst-case scenario; Sandi has Stage 4 Colon Cancer and spread to her Uterus. As you can imagine, this came as a total shock to Sandi and her family. Even though Sandi had the bad news of a lifetime, she remains optimistic, upbeat and destined to beat this cancer! The doctors immediately set up a plan for her treatment and went to work. Although a shock, there has not been one moment, one second that she has said "why me" or "this sucks."  It’s been “All right, Let’s get this train moving and drive this sucker outta town !"

Sandi knew that the treatments would be harsh; she didn't count on the physical pain it would cause her. She thought that through all of this, she would continue working. After her very first chemo treatment, her body had an adverse reaction, and Sandi fell into what she describes as "the black death." She was unable to drink fluids and eat, and within two weeks, she lost 30 pounds. When Sandi went in for her second chemo treatment, the doctor said she needed to regain her strength before completing the second treatment. They gave her IV fluids to rehydrate her and a new plan to help her retain fluid and eat.
Sandi didn't plan on not being able to work through this, and as you can imagine, the financial burden is significant.

As you know, Sandi has a difficult road ahead of her. The reason for this fundraiser is to help take the financial pressure off of her so she can focus on her health, her children, and enjoy every moment that she can. Sandi and Dave have been separated for a number of years but remain extremely tight best friends.  He has stepped in and been an exceptional force in organizing information webs to keep all parties informed, all while working 40 hours a week and devoting 20 hours to a MBA.

Sandi wants everyone to know that the outpouring of love from her entire community has been incredibly overwhelming.   The light that surrounds her each day in warmth, reinforces that this is just a bump in the road.  “And when the night is cloudy, there is a light that shines on me, shine until tomorrow.  Let it be !”

Sandi has had some challenging obstacles and came out of them through her strength and perseverance through the years. Sandi is currently confronted with an additional barrier that she will continue to fight through with the love of her beautiful children Olivia, Harrison, Mia and Dave.

Please continue to pray, send positive energy, send love, hope and every bit of good juju off to Sandi...thank you for taking a moment to read this and your consideration of helping Sandi through this tuff time.
