I've been working since 2013 on water-related projects in the Mara, Narok County, Kenya. My good friend Mark Karbolo, a Maasai from Olderkesi, always helped me in these projects. Now he and his community are lacking food, due to the lockdown measures and severe flooding that is currently happening in the area. Mark contacted me to help his community.
Due to the Corona Crisis the authorities have closed the markets where the Maasai people of Olderkesi buy and sell their goods. Now this remote area is depending on transport of food and goods from far away. In the last week the situation has worsened due to flooding. Roads are inaccessible and bridges are destroyed. Food prices have tripled.
Due to the lockdown also the students have returned to their families and have to continue learning online, while there is a lack of funds for internet bundles.
To support the families in the Sand River community, my good friend Mark Karbolo requested:
- Funds for buying food (rice, maize, vegetables)
- Funds for buying internet bundles
The more funds that are raised, the more families we can help in the area.
In the video below Mark explains what's needed.
