Help Samuel recover from a broken back & surgery

Donation protected
Hi, we’re the friends & family of Samuel Morgan. Last week, on January 11, Sam turned 75, The day after his birthday he slipped off an icy bridge outside his home, and fell 15 feet into an ice cold stream where he lay partially submerged, but conscious for 2 hours before being discovered. He miraculously survived, but had hypothermia, 5 broken vertebrae, 3 broken ribs, and major trauma to his chest. However, his harrowing journey had only just begun. Though he was life-flighted to St. Alphonsus hospital in Boise, Idaho, he was unable to obtain care there because the hospital was over-capacity with Co-Vid patients. He was then life-flighted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, Washington, where he could receive care. Three full days passed from the time of his emergency until he could actually receive emergency surgery on January 14th.

Sam survived surgery and is recovering at Harborview, but has a long and risky road for recovery ahead. He now must brave the hospital inpatient system despite the surge in Co-Vid cases. Due to the severity of his fall and location of the breaks at his age, nearly his entire back had to be surgically fused. He will be in recovery for months and years to come, with some of the most intensive therapy and recovery care just ahead of him. His life is forever changed by limited mobility. Aside from paying medical bills, his family may need to alter their home so that he may navigate home-life safely. He will likely need physical therapy and pain management for years to come.
If you feel moved by Sam’s story, you can leave a donation here at his Go Fund Me. Sam did not have a hand in setting up this site, and will certainly be deeply moved by your contribution. He is already so grateful to have survived his accident. We, his friends and family, thank you for your support and outpouring of compassion. Thank you for caring for Sam!
