Samuel Prieto-Bueno has exceptional music talent and first sang in church choirs when he was 5 in Los Angeles, California, shortly before his father passed. He then moved to Florida and joined the Florida Singing Sons' boys choir where he's been a member for almost 5 years. He has sung in “Carmina Burana” and performed numerous great works in multiple venues. He also participated in the Operas of “Tosca”, “Pagliacci”, and “La Boheme” with Florida Grand Opera. The music teacher at his “Purpose Academy” middle school took notice of his talents in music writing as well, and triggered Samuel's composition skills, also orchestrating two opportunities for him to sing before the Mayor of North Lauderdale in South Florida. And it is no wonder... for Samuel is the grandson of a renowned Colombian piano prodigy, Pilar Leyva, and renowned Spanish composer and conductor, Jose Buenagu who passed away in Madrid, last Christmas, leaving a musical legacy Samuel wishes to continue.
To do so, Samuel has determined to join his choir on a musical venture to Spain this Summer of 2024. But he needs help to get there -
His choir will join the Miami Children’s Chorus and the Children’s Chorus of Washington to travel and participate in the prestigious MELODIA Choral Festival in Spain, with the Festival de Úbeda, Festival de Las Navas, Festival de Segovia, and an opportunity to perform world premier pieces of great Spanish and Latinoamerican composers in an outstanding blended musical experience that brings together top choirs of the world to sing with and for each other.
Samuel is very excited about also visiting and singing in Seville, Córdoba, Segovia, and Madrid, exploring cultural landmarks of Samuel's heritage, including the iconic Alhambra Palace in Granada where his grandfather conducted and produced the beautiful recording of the Aranjuez Concert by Joaquin Rodrigo, played by the Seville Orchestra and John Williams on the guitar.
Samuel has his heart fixed on joining the selected voices from his choir that will travel, praying to go! No doubt, for him this journey holds a special significance, thrilled to connect with the country of his roots and to grow in his grandfather's legacy while immersed in the rich cultural tapestry of Spain.
This experience is undoubtedly incredible, yet comes with significant costs he needs to cover in making his dream a reality.
His mother volunteers as Samuel’s Concert Choir parent coordinator, chaperone, chofer, communicator, and dress room organizer, investing time and money in carpooling choir singers to and from rehearsals and events, also participating in fundraisers for other choir boys, and supporting Samuel’s efforts to keep-up with his school and choir expectations, all while meeting the demands of the professional Opera rehearsals hours away, late nights, and during weekends and holidays.
Now Samuel reaches out to other relatives, friends, and community members to make it to Madrid. Your contribution or share of this GoFundMe will go a long way in helping him afford this once-in-a-lifetime musical trip.
