Hello! My name is Samuel and I am an elite athlete, facilitator, and writer who is in need of your support to get to the 2021 Olympic Trials in the 800m.
For most of my five-year professional running career, I have balanced full-time training with full-time nonprofit work and community organizing. But in May of 2019, I secured a contract that allowed me to leave my nonprofit job and focus solely on professional running until December 2020. I've finished 2nd in 600m at the U.S. Indoor Championships in 2019 along with finishing in the top-15 at the Outdoor Championships in 2018 and 2019.
Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic forced almost all events and racing opportunities to be canceled or postponed, including the 2020 Olympics. With no opportunities for prize money or performance bonuses, my income for the year was drastically reduced. Now, in January 2021, I am without a sponsor to fund my training expenses.
Beyond my training, I also spend a significant amount of time facilitating community dialogue about race/masculinity and supporting people navigating interpersonal/intimate partner violence. Though much of this work is unpaid, it is incredibly important to me, and I hope to continue prioritizing it.
I'm asking for your financial support to advance my lifelong dream of making it to the Olympics while also continuing my facilitation and organizing efforts. Competing at this level requires training six-days per week, often twice-a-day, between 2-6 hours each day. These funds will help me pay for training/equipment, travel, physical therapy, and other maintenance over the next six months leading up to the Olympic Trials in June 2021.
