I don’t even know how to put this into words… but my heart is breaking and I need people to understand what this little boy has been through.
My nephew is only 9 years old.
Two years ago, he watched cancer take his daddy. He cried himself to sleep missing his dad, clinging to his mama, believing she would always be there. She was his safety. His comfort. His whole world.
Last week, epileptic seizures that wouldn’t stop took her too.
In a matter of hours… he lost everything.
He is 9 years old and has no parents.
I cannot explain the pain of looking into a child’s eyes and seeing pure heartbreak, confusion, and fear staring back at you. The quiet tears. The sudden sobs. The way he freezes when he realizes his mama is really gone. The way he asks questions no child should ever have to ask.
“Why did God take my mommy?”
“Where do I go now?”
“Who will take care of me?”
And the hardest one of all —
“Do I get to stay here?”
He came to our home with almost nothing. No toys. No clothes. No comfort items. Just trauma, grief, and a tiny heart desperately searching for safety.
My husband and I looked at him and made a promise — you will never be alone again.
Our three sons wrapped their arms around him and said, “You’re our brother now.” And in that moment, cousins became brothers. And our home became his safe space.
But love cannot erase trauma. And love cannot cover the legal, emotional, and financial mountain we now face trying to make him legally ours and give him the stability he desperately needs.
This little boy has already buried both parents before he even turned ten.
He deserves counseling. He deserves security. He deserves to know he will never be moved again. He deserves to feel safe when he closes his eyes at night.
If you are reading this and feel your heart tug even a little, please help us in any way you can — by sharing, praying, or supporting.
Because no child should grow up wondering if they belong.
And no child should ever feel this kind of pain.
