My name is Samuel Eli Hernández Martínez.

I am from Guatemala and was born with a severe hearing disability. I am deaf, which has significantly limited my access to education, employment, and basic opportunities throughout my life. In Guatemala, I could only find low-paying physical labor jobs and often faced discrimination because of my disability.

My wife is also deaf, and together we are raising three children. In search of a better life and the ability to support my family, I arrived in the United States in November 2024.

Since arriving, I attended all my scheduled immigration check-ins and have no criminal record. Despite this, on the 16th of December, I was detained during a scheduled immigration appointment and am now being held in an immigration detention center.

Being detained as a deaf individual places me in a state of extreme vulnerability, as I rely on interpreters to communicate and understand my legal situation. We urgently need to raise funds to hire an immigration attorney who can help defend my case and fight for my release and family reunification.

Mi nombre es Samuel Eli Hernández Martínez.

Soy originario de Guatemala y nací con una discapacidad auditiva severa. Soy sordo, lo que ha limitado profundamente mi acceso a la educación, al empleo y a una vida digna. En Guatemala solo pude trabajar en empleos físicos y mal pagados, y además sufrí discriminación por mi discapacidad.

Mi esposa también es sorda y juntos tenemos tres hijos. Por la necesidad de sostener a mi familia y buscar una vida con más oportunidades, llegué a los Estados Unidos en noviembre de 2024.

Desde mi llegada, siempre cumplí con todas mis citas migratorias y no tengo ningún récord criminal. Aun así, el día 16 de Diciembre fui detenido durante una cita migratoria programada y actualmente me encuentro en un centro de detención.

Estar detenido siendo una persona sorda me coloca en una situación de extrema vulnerabilidad, ya que dependo de intérpretes para poder comunicarme y defender mis derechos. Por ello, necesitamos recaudar fondos urgentemente para contratar un abogado de inmigración que pueda ayudar con mi caso y luchar por mi libertad y reunificación familiar.
