On the morning of December 11, 2023, our friend, Sam Andresen, left home to get his mom some breakfast and coffee. During his drive back, he suffered a medical episode behind the wheel of his car, lost control and slammed head-on into a tree. By the grace of God, Sam is alive and no one else was hurt, but the injuries he sustained are extreme.
Sam suffered several fractures in his vertebrae and ribs. He broke his femur, tibia and fibula. Doctors considered amputating his foot below his ankle, but through the miracle of modern medicine, his skilled team of doctors were able to re-attach and save his foot.
He has already undergone several major surgeries to repair the damage done to his pelvis, spine and leg, but it will take months of rehabilitation and physical therapy before he can walk again. The road to recovery will be long and arduous due to the trauma he’s endured, and out-of-pocket medical bills are estimated to be in the tens of thousands of dollars.
Sam is one of the kindest people you’ll ever meet and is a genuine friend to everyone. His lighthearted humor and easy-going attitude are what make him so likable! He is genuine, compassionate and selfless. Sam is the kind of guy who would see this GoFundMe cross his path and donate to whoever was impacted, even if he didn’t know them personally.
Despite the extreme pain, continuous surgeries and long days of solitude, Sam remains positive and even manages playful banter with his doctors and nurses. He has made great strides through physical therapy and spends his time reading, journaling and gathering ideas for his best man speech for my wedding in May. He has made it a personal goal to be able to walk by then, and we hope to help him reach that goal.
Please consider donating to Sam's cause to help ease the financial burden of this accident. Your proceeds will go directly to payments for his hospital bills and medical treatments. Anything is helpful and no amount is too small. Help us get Sam back to his healthy, jovial self! I know he will be so touched and appreciative for the love and care being sent his way.
If you are unable to contribute financially, please say a prayer of strength and healing for our friend.
