Hi, my name is Sam Pot. I’m starting this GoFundMe for my parents, whose farm was completely devastated by the recent Kona Low storm’s. The damages exceed $50,000. My parents have been farming for 30 years—it is all they know. Every Saturday, they head to the swap meet to sell their produce, but unfortunately, that has to be put on hold for a while!
The farm is located in Otake, and the storm surge saturated the land with bacteria. Getting the farm back to what it once was is going to be a long, difficult process.
We are so grateful for the family, friends, and members of the military and community who have came out to help. We managed to clear most of the mud, rubbish, and debris from the station where we pack and store our equipment in a container. However, we haven't even been able to start on the crops because of the thick mud. We have to wait for everything to dry out, but we just keep getting rain after rain. It is truly difficult to bear.
This farm is my mom and dad’s life. They are constantly at the site, just waiting for the day they can get back out there and start planting again. It’s heartbreaking because the sheer scale of where to begin is overwhelming. All proceeds will go toward their rent, utilities, tools, food, and rebuilding the farm.
Thank you for listening to our story and for considering a donation.
