Sammy is an 8-year-old Golden Retriever and has been my constant companion, helping me navigate the daily challenges of Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome Type III. Her gentle presence and dedicated service have made a world of difference in my life, and she’s always been by my side, ready to assist whenever I need her. In December, Sammy suffered a torn CCL—the canine equivalent of the ACL in humans—in her left knee. Since then, she’s been unable to perform any of her service tasks, and even more heartbreakingly, she can’t play or run like she loves. Watching her struggle has been incredibly difficult, and it’s clear that she needs surgery to repair her knee. This procedure will allow her to enjoy her retirement as a beloved family pet, but it comes at a significant cost. As someone living with a disability, my work options are limited, and my current job just manages to cover my bills. The expense of Sammy’s surgery is overwhelming, but it’s essential to give her the quality of life she deserves after years of loyal service. Any support will help ensure this loving, loyal dog gets the retirement she absolutely deserves. Thank you doesn’t even begin to cover my feeling on the matter, but it’s a heck of a start.
