Help Sammy Ganibo with emergency spinal surgery
Hi, my name is Dave, the Canadian brother in-law of Sammy. My wife's family is in Palawan Philippines. this is a beautiful island, but for most still living in poverty making a living by farming rice, and other crops to keep the family fed.
This Wednesday, Sammy was training a new Carabao (Water Buffalo) to till his field, then smooth the hard surfaces with a form of rake (harrow), (lots of steel spikes on a steel frame about 350kgs).
The animal turned on Sammy, and chased him over the broken ground, where Sammy tripped, and Carabao and rake ran him over.
The accident broke several ribs, that have pushed into his spine, dislocating it in several places, and one rib is pressed into the nerve, which the combination has left him paralyzed below the neck, with one arm seemingly ok.
Being a rural community, and further complicated with Covid, getting him surgery (immediately) has proven extremely difficult.
There is no guarantee once he has had the surgery that he will regain his mobility. But without it, his situation is dire.
My family will dig deep into our pockets, and any assistance would be welcomed.
We are sending $7,000 Canadian (250,000 Php) as a deposit to get the surgery started, which I believe may be about 25% of the cost, god only knows about his recovery and physiotherapy costs, but we will face this later and in due course.
