Sammie came into the world in late 2025 with a devastating heart defect called pulmonic stenosis. Jodi adopted her from Buckeye Bulldog Rescue in December, determined to give her a fighting chance at life. After several medical evaluations, it became clear that Sammie would need a life-saving surgery. Jodi began saving and preparing for Sammie's care, hoping to give her the best possible future.
Tragically, at the same time, Jodi's other beloved dog, Dean Martin, became seriously ill. Dean was diagnosed with IMHA, a condition where his immune system attacked his red blood cells, causing his RBC to drop dangerously low. Despite every effort—multiple blood transfusions, steroids, and intensive care—Dean was found to have aggressive liver cancer that was shutting down his liver and causing the IMHA. With no hope for recovery and only days left in excruciating pain, Jodi made the heartbreaking but loving decision to end Dean's suffering. All the funds saved for Sammie's surgery were used in the attempt to save Dean's life.
Now, Jodi is facing the overwhelming challenge of covering both Dean's end-of-life care and Sammie's urgent heart surgery. Every little bit helps. If you feel for these pups as much as we do, please consider donating or sharing their story. Your support will help give Sammie a chance at a healthy life and ease the burden on Jodi during this incredibly difficult time.
