Sambamurthy was a teacher at a private school in Hyderabad. He was admitted to the hospital after being tested positive for Covid. A few days later, his wife Mahimalatha, a housewife, also tested positive for COVID and went through home isolation and medication. However, her health started to deteriorate and was also admitted to the hospital.
Sambamurthy succumbed to COVID complications and passed away shortly. Unfortunately, in the same week, his wife also took her last breath and succumbed to COVID. Neither Sambamurthy nor Mahimalatha were with each other in their last moments nor they knew what happened with the other. The girls were already devastated with their father's demise but couldn't inform their mother of the tragedy since she was already in critical care. The kids were inconsolable when they heard that their mother had passed away too. The girls had to sell and get rid of everything that had a financial value to support their parent's hospitalization and other related expenses, including the finances both parents have saved and secured for their future & weddings.
Sambamurthy and Mahimalatha come from humble beginnings, worked hard as any parents should to support their kids and family. They both were the kind of people who would do their part in helping COVID victims and their families with whatever financial support they could. They would do everything they could for their friends in need, and never miss sharing a post for any donation or charitable campaign. They both strongly believed that if people come together, they have the ability to bring a huge difference in anyone's lives. The last post Sambamurthy ever shared with me was one where he was urging all his friends and family to donate to the COVID victim's relief fund, but never in my worst nightmares did I imagine they would both fall victim to the same COVID which has devastated many families and friends all around the world.
With all their parent's savings gone and additional debts incurred, the future looks daunting for the girls. The eldest daughter, now 21, has become the sole bread winner for the family and is determined to take responsibility for her 16-year-old sister, her education and both their futures. Hopefully our blessings and humble help can make a little difference to their lives and give them a better future that their parents would have hoped for.
