Help Samantha Overcome Cancer and Care for Stella

My name is Gina Schuh, many of you know me as @oopsibrokemyneck on IG. I am doing this GoFundMe on behalf of my friend Samantha Lackey. I have never put together a GoFundMe but I jumped at the opportunity to create one because I am so passionate about helping Samantha. What’s going on? Well…

Let me give you a quick little history. Sam met Jeremy in 2013, they fell in love and moved to Arizona in 2016. They married in 2018 and in 2019 Stella arrived the night of a full moon. May 2019 she was diagnosed with spinal muscular atrophy type 1 (SMA). This diagnosis came with heavy news that Stella would require a wheelchair for the rest of her life. This is a degenerative neuromuscular disease, but thanks to gene therapy she’s thriving. Stella is a sassy, quick little five-year-old on wheels. Her mom went on to lobby for newborn screening to update to federally recommended standards in Arizona which included adding SMA to the screening.

As heartbreaking as the challenging journey is for Stella, that is not why we’re here. Samantha was recently diagnosed with thyroid cancer and will require surgery, isolation, additional expenses, and a need for a caregiver for Stella while she recovers. This money will help her pay for her expenses while she undergoes medical treatment, because as we all know it is very expensive.

Every dollar will go to the Lackey family to help them during this time. I will be hosting a fundraiser in Tempe on June 23. Information will be readily available. Thank you so much for your support.
