It is with a heavy heart that we share the news that Samantha, the eldest daughter of the Walker/Rivas family, was recently diagnosed with AML Leukemia. AML Leukemia is a cancer of the blood and bone marrow.
A little over a month ago Samantha was attending college with a BioChem major while working part-time at Ivey Promotions LLC. Now she is unable to work due to ongoing hospitalizations, chemotherapy, and she cannot be around people as she is immunocompromised.
Samantha is currently applying for Medicaid as her medical bills are already over $784K, with more coming. We estimate our portion of the bills plus other associated expenses such as prescriptions will be well over $100k by the end of this year, despite Medicaid coverage if she is approved.
Samatha's treatment will require a bone marrow transplant. We are testing her sister Sydney, but we don't have the results back to see if she is a match yet. She has other complications due to the Leukemia such as brain swelling, small bleeds in her brain, and optic nerve inflammation.
If you're able, please consider joining the bone marrow registry. It's free and can help save someone's life. https://bethematch.org. In addition, the blood banks are experiencing a severe shortage of blood products such as platelets, blood, plasma, etc. Please contact your local Red Cross to find out where to donate blood if you are so inclined.
We sincerely appreciate your donations. kind words, prayers, and words of encouragement. Your support means the world to us. Thank you kindly!
