A Day In The Life Of A Raccoon

I pray this reaches all with a compassionate heart. ❤
This is a story about one single day of my life. I live in a world where my habitat is being destroyed, & each day becomes more of a struggle to survive. I was a vibrant, young female raccoon until that traumatic day. Everything was going great at first, playing, exploring the woods, foraging for food, & resting in between all of my daily activities. One of my favorite things to do is enjoying climbing trees & having the ability to see everything from so high up! Sometimes my litter mates & I get a little rambunctious when we play, & that can get dangerous when we are high in a tree. I try to be especially careful, but with less & less trees to choose from, I accidentally stepped onto an unstable limb, lost balance, & fell! I tried my best to land gracefully, like I have in the past, except this time I couldn't gain control & landed simultaneously on my front legs, snapping both completely in half! The pain was excruciating! My front legs were still a part of my body, but no longer worked. I was only able to walk on my hind legs, which exhausted my entire body. I could no longer climb to safety, I struggled to feed myself, & was so alone with nowhere to turn to for help...if only I were a cat or dog, then somebody would have helped me I thought to myself! I did my best to survive in debilitating pain for a week, it was horrific! I whimpered for help but nobody heard me, what was I to do? I wanted to live, afterall, my life had just begun! In desperation, I took my chances & searched for a kind hearted human to help me. I refused to give up hope & prayed that somebody would see that I am worth fighting for! Thankfully, I found my way to Samadhi Wildlife! I got so lucky because they are a Non-profit Organization that does Wildlife Rehabilitation!! Wildlife...that's ME!!! I cried with joy because I knew I was going to be afforded a 2nd chance at life.
My surgery was a bit painful at first because the doctor had to operate on my arms to realign my fragile bones. I had to learn to function & be a raccoon with splints on, this proved to be yet another challenge for me. My arms were stiff like crutches. Climbing was out of the question, & I still was not able to feed myself like normal. Raccoons love to use their sensitive hands to investigate everything they touch, & my hands were buried in splints, this was beyond frustrating. I am still in the care of my rescuers & am ever so grateful that I found them! ❤ It will take several weeks, if not months in rehab, that means lots of x-rays & constantly changing splints since it is a near impossible task to keep splints clean & dry on a raccoon!
Samadhi Wildlife took such excellent care of me. I received the medical help I needed to get my arms realigned & strong again. It was an extreme amount of time, love, patience, & medical expenses for Samadhi Wildlife. I felt terrible but they kept reassuring me that I was so important to the world & they would do everything in their power to see my recovery through to the end. I found the love & respect I deserved!
Life is not easy for a raccoon in today's world, but I realized that it's not easy for compassionate people like wildlife rehabbers either. They are far & few between, & get no compensation for their selfless work. Samadhi Wildlife became my voice during the most agonizing & scary time of my life, so now I would like to be their voice... Please donate to my story so that Samadhi Wildlife can continue to save more of my friends! 100% of all donations go directly to all wildlife in their care. Thank you for reading this story about me, such an adorable, precious raccoon that was given a 2nd chance! ❣
