Hi my name is Sam, and I need help to fund my hip surgery(s).
In late 2021 (2 years ago) I was playing my second game of oztag in a social comp, when I injured myself in an accidental collision. As a result of the impact, I tore the labrum in my hip which required urgent hip surgery. I had an initial surgery in December 2021 and had a terrible recovery resulting in a hernia surgery and slowly increasing hip pain. As I didn't have the required level of private health insurance, and due to the speciality of the surgery the out of pocket cost of both surgeries was over $18k. I am still repaying a loan to cover these surgeries
Since the initial hip surgery (18 months ago) my hip has constantly been in pain and still I am unable to stand for long periods of time, walk long distances and haven't even thought about running. In addition, I was unable to go back to my personal training job.
I've seen multiple specialist (some recommending hip replacements). I finally found a suitable surgeon in Melbourne that can undertake a second hip surgery appropriate to my symptoms and in consideration of my age and goals.
The whole experice has been both physically and mentally draining as at 24 years of age I am now living with chronic pain and can't walk for longer then 10 minutes without needing to sit down, all because an accidental knock at oztag. I have had to miss lots of time off work for recovery, appointments, scans etc.
I have high hopes that the second hip surgery will allow me to return to a normal active lifestyle for a 24 year old, that allows me to go on hikes, go to the gym, go on walks (with our little Husky) and sleep without pain and an ice pack.
I have a surgery booked on the 19th June in Melbourne and I would really appreciate any help that you could give, the cost of the new surgery is estimated to be $13k.
Thanks Sam
