Help Sam walk again and come home from hospital
Donation protected
Hi, our names are Gina & Tanya and our son (Sam Tierney) has been very ill for a long time. We presented to the Emergency Department on so many occasions but were always turned away to the point we were given a letter informing titled”Final Report “ and we’re told not to return to ED. We were also verbally advised that our son "did not belong there”.
Our son is a non-verbal 19 and autistic and has always been an active, happy young man known for his athleticism and bringing joy to others. Instead of being treated as such, we believe the concentration on his disability rather than his illness by the doctors caused us insurmountable grief. Sam was the one suffering and instead of receiving early intervention treatment he ended up fighting for his life on an ECMO machine for a couple of months which ultimately resulted in him losing his ability to walk.
We walked our son into hospital in June 2021 and now in Jan 2022 he remains in hospital but now bedridden & wheelchair bound, with no indication of when he will be able to walk and come home.

Our hearts have been broken to now learn from his doctors that Sam may take months to walk again, if ever. We are past the point of trying to allocate blame for who is responsible for our son’s demise and acquired injury. All we want now is to have our son walk again and to be able to return home.
We are now appealing to others to help us financially sustain this situation that could have been avoided had our son been treated like a human being and given the appropriate standard of care and treatment. We have had to give up our jobs to assist with Sam's care in hospital as he continues to require 24hr care which the hospital is unable to provide due to staffing limitations.

Sam will now require ongoing physical intervention, possibly for the rest of his life. The goal of raising money for Sam is so that as his parents we may continue to provide the much needed care and attention to help Sam walk again.

We sincerely hope that this page, with your help can raise the capital that’s needed for Sam to beat the “never walk again” diagnosis. If this is to be his life going forward then we also now need to raise capital for the required modifications as we do not currently reside in a wheelchair accessible home. We are 2 mums who love our son dearly but who due to COVID job losses have needed to overdraw our mortgage just to try & keep all of our heads above the water. Thank you so much in advance for your generosity!
