On Thursday February 23rd around 6pm my dog Sam managed to escape through my backyard door by crawling and digging dirt below the door. He made it down the block where he was hit by a car and the driver of the car took off leaving my poor guy on the side to fend for himself...
Strangers saw him and called me while I was at work and k dropped everything I was doing to go look for him. Luckily my brother was able to get to him before I arrived and took him to an emergency vet. Once there they were able to stabilize him and perform blood work test and x-rays to see the damages. This is where things started to get confusing. The vet indicated that Sam has a few fractured ribs and his pelvis had broken in multiple areas but they would all heal on its own.
We took him home Thursday night and stayed up all night long since the vet was not a 24 hour service location and we were still trying to process what had just happened. Throughout the night, we supplied IV to him and catered to all his needs until 8am when we took him to our local vet. Once there they started the examination process of Sam. We had to pay for another set of x-ray, blood work and examination due to the first vet not having very clear results. They monitored him for a few hours and determined he was okay to go back home and prescribed a couple of prescription medication to help with his pain and to keep him relaxed and calm.
Fast forward to Sunday morning, we decided to take him back to our local vet for a checkup on his condition and things took a turn for the worse. He was unable to relieve/pee correctly and all his urine was leaking somewhere internally causing Sam to become even more ill (as if he wasnt going through enough).
We decided to allow the doctor to go ahead and perform surgery in an attempt to seal up the puncture. The surgery was unsuccessful as the doctor was not able to determine where the cut/incision was at and recommended to go to a specialist and 24 hour care. This is where we are at now... We have only authorized 24-48 hour of care to get him stabilized after the first surgery and if he makes it through, allow his body to recover and then have the specialist perform the 2nd surgery attempt at fixing is urine track so he can start his road to recovery.
We have already used up a majority of our resources to pay for Sam's vet bills but unfortunately we are now running low on funds. I would not sleep right knowing I had to put my little Sam down because money was an issue.
I am now reaching out for help where I would normally never ask for. Sam currently needs any and all possible help he can get. I love this little guy.
Total so far in vet fees:
First vet : 1,025
Second vet: 160
First surgery: 810
24-48hr care: 1900-3500
2nd surgery estimate: 3500-5500
2nd surgery total after: roughly 7800
If I can raise up the money to save my little guy I will forever be in debt to those to helped keep him here. Any extra funds left over will be donated to the animal hospital to help others in the same position as Sam and my family.
Thanks for reading.
Please help us save our beloved dog.
