Hi my name is Samantha, I have been unfortunate to be born with a crooked jaw this has given numerous issues including; cracked teeth, lock jaw, TMJ, very difficult time eating and struggling to enjoy my smile . I have struggled threw this my whole adult life and even as a teen, had no idea why I couldn't eat as fast as others or why I had hard time eating food as I wanted to do. So began the journey to fix myself I went threw years of dental work to get to a point where I could get braces. Now that I have had my braces for a year plus I'm now ready for surgery. As it turns out my insurance has deemed this this jaw surgery as not covered. I was told by multiple surgeons that I would need a large deposit paid in full before the surgery this was never brought up and now I feel it will be ages for me to save up to that amount. As I am not in a place to take out loans or apply for credit of any kind since I'm currently enrolled in a debt consolidation plan that doesn't allow me to take on new credit or loans. All I want is to be able to eat and not be in pain I really wish this wasn't such a big ask but there are many forces against me . I try not to get emotional or cry however this is a difficult subject for me the thought of trying to save this much by myself and pay my bills brings to tears. I wish our healthcare system worked better, I wish my jaw wasn't over 4CM off making it difficult to eat and sleep but most off all I just want the constant pain to go away.
A Bilateral Sagittal Split Osteotomy (or BSSO) is a type of jaw surgery where the lower jaw is separated from the face and repositioned. This repositioning is also called orthognathic surgery.
