Help Sam Palmer Rebuild After Devastating Flood

Donation protected
Sam Palmer, a long-time resident of Globe, AZ, since 1988, opened his cherished storefront, "Good Junk," in 2004 (this is also his personal residence). His passion for collecting and selling antique, vintage, and unique items, including World War memorabilia, jewelry, was a family tradition shared with his brothers. After 11 years of operation, Sam closed the store due to health challenges but was hopeful about reopening soon and started making plans to do so.

Tragically, on September 26, 2025, while Sam was asleep, a catastrophic flood devastated Globe’s Historic Downtown District, inundating Sam’s property with up to three feet of mud and water. The flood destroyed over 20 years’ worth of collectibles, household items, and his only vehicle. Recently, only a day after the flood he was hospitalized and is doing his best to manage ongoing health issues, Sam faces immense stress from this loss. Without flood nor hazard insurance and living on a fixed income, he needs our support to recover.

Needs: Drywall Sheets, Drywall Mud, Drywall Screws/Tape, Paint, Caulking, Plywood, Skilled Labor/Trades people.

Large Tupperwares for Storage, Refrigerator, Toaster Oven

Your generous donations can help Sam rebuild his life and home. Please consider contributing to support this longtime Globe community member during this difficult time.

Sam is our neighbor, and we’re doing our best to support him. He’s a senior who isn’t very familiar with technology. All contributions will go directly to Sam to help cover the items mentioned above.

*Oct 5 Update: We have heard back from most of Disaster Assistance Center organizations at the Gila County Fairgrounds, they denied Sam for assistance since his property category is "Commercial".

*Oct 6 Update: Yesterday, generous volunteers moved Sam's saved belongings back into his building before the rain hit this week. The Curiel Family (El Ranchito) provided additional OSB boards, and Team Rubicon secured the front of Sam's building before nightfall. Roy Elliston donated drywall mud/ tape, Megan, Sam's amazing physical therapist from Cobre Valley Hospital, brought clothing, and BBQ Relief delivered food. Apologies if I missed anyone. It was a fantastic day—thank you all for your donations, volunteer efforts, and prayers!

**Update: October 14, 2024
Thank you to everyone for your generous help, donations, materials and prayers! Here's the latest on Sam and the property at 570 N. Broad Street in Globe, AZ.
Sam's building escaped damage from this week's rain and flooding on Downtown Historic Broad Street—great news! He wasn't home during the flood, but unfortunately, he's been hospitalized for the past 6 days. He's now back home feeling better and eager to start restoring order.

A HUGE Thank you to SUNDT Construction J. Henry Daggett for the delivery of drywall and materials!! THANK YOU!
Your continued support means the world—thank you!

**Update – November 1, 2025
It’s hard to believe it’s already November — October flew by in a blur for so many of us here in Globe/Miami, AZ.
Thank you all for continuing to volunteer, donate, and share Sam’s story. Your support truly means the world. We wanted to take a moment to update you on his progress.
Sam has been working diligently to tackle the long list of needs, but due to ongoing health challenges, his progress has been slower than he’d like. Right now, he urgently needs 3–4 skilled volunteers to help hang drywall inside the building.
If you have experience with drywall installation — or know someone who does — please reach out to us. With cooler temperatures finally arriving in Globe, we’re hopeful to get the drywall installed soon.
If you’re unable to volunteer in person, please consider donating or sharing Sam’s story to help spread the word. Your continued kindness, positive energy, and prayers make all the difference.
Thank you for standing with Sam and for being part of this journey.
