Help Sam & Maki Save Their Home
Donation protected
I'm Vanessa a friend of Sam and Maki for 9 years. I've started this page to help them regain some stability and dignity in their lives. Their nightmare began 3 1/2 years ago when a fire caused them to be displaced from their newly renovated, restumped home which they moved into 3 weeks prior. Post the fire while waiting for insurance to do repairs faulty water mains allowed water to flow freely from burnt pipes, dumping 155,000 litres of water onto their small lot. Sam wrote and called the insurance company multiple times to alert them that something was wrong and they dismissed her advising it was likely water left from the fire fighting. As the house was unoccupied and the leak from the mains was at ground level it was not stopped until vast damage was done making the house a condemned property.
Sam has been fighting every way she knows how, with tribunals, ombudsmans', commissions, her local member and she now had no other option to seek the help from the legal system to fight a big insurance company who won't take responsibility for the water damage after 3 years. She and Maki have had to move six times - the insurance company refuses to pay out and rebuild the property on soil that she has been told won't dry for a decade it's so saturated.
She has exhausted her savings to pay to fight big industry. Whether you personally know or don't know Sam & Maki, I'm sure you can appreciate the 'David & Goliath' situation where the little guy can't win. With no end in sight and legal costs mounting, and no stable home for herself and Maki, living in one rental accommodation after another due to required insurance company arrangements, all while paying a mortgage on a house that they can't live in, and the risk of the bank taking the home. No one is willing to take responsibility for the inaction of the flooding or the rebuilding of there home. All the while it has been mentally, physically and financially taking its toll on Sam and her 9-year-old daughter Maki.
Sam has dedicated her life to teaching arts to secondary students in the Catholic System in Melbourne & surrounding suburbs.
I know it is a really tough time of year for everyone, however; I hope that it is also the season for giving and taking care of those in need - and Maki and Sam will be forever grateful and when they are back on their feet, I know they will pay it forward. Thank you for giving whatever you can, any size donation is a gift, and will help support them and bring them some light and hope to their fight.
Much love to you and your family for this season. xx Vanessa
