Help Sam and His Wife Stay Safe in the Home They Love
Sam Gibson is a 75-year-old husband who has spent his life doing what so many men of his generation did—working hard, providing for his family, and asking for very little in return.
Today, Sam and his elderly wife are facing a heartbreaking reality. The roof over their home—the place filled with decades of memories—is failing. The existing shake roof, installed over skip sheeting, has deteriorated beyond repair. Water is leaking into their home. Their ceilings are beginning to fall in. The damage is worsening with each passing storm.
Sam has exhausted every option he knows. He has applied for a HELOC loan. He has searched for grants. He has asked for help anywhere he could. Unfortunately, at his age and stage in life, those doors have largely been closed to him.
What breaks our hearts the most is why he keeps trying.
Sam isn’t asking for himself. He is trying to make sure his wife has a safe home to live in for the rest of her life.
When I met Sam, he humbly offered something that no one should ever feel they have to offer. He said he would sign his home over to me if I would fix his roof and simply allow him and his wife to live there until they passed. That moment made it clear how desperate his situation truly is. Of course, I could never accept something like that. No one should ever feel forced to give up their home just to have a safe place to live.
At Liberty Construction & Designs, we have committed to donating our labor to replace Sam’s roof. We will remove the failing shake roofing, re-sheet the structure properly, dry it in, and install a new roof to protect their home.
However, we cannot cover the cost of all the materials alone.
That’s why we’re asking for help from the community.
Every dollar raised will go directly toward roofing materials—sheathing, underlayment, shingles, flashing, and all necessary supplies to restore safety and dignity to Sam and his wife’s home.
This isn’t just about a roof.
It’s about protecting a husband and wife who have spent their lives building something together.
It’s about making sure they can stay in their home, together, safely.
It’s about showing them that their community cares.
Sam and his wife are someone’s parents. Someone’s grandparents. Someone’s neighbors. And right now, they need us.
If you’re able to give, any amount helps.
If you’re unable to donate, please consider sharing their story.
Let’s come together and help Sam and his wife stay safe in the home they love.
