Help Sam and Archie Pay for Dot's Surgery

My husband, Archie, and I went on our honeymoon at the end of September — we loaded up our van and set out to New Mexico for a week of hiking and camping. On our second day as we were driving in Zuni, we saw a small black dog dragging herself along the highway. We immediately pulled over at the gas station ahead and lured her to us with food and water. She was extremely scared and didn’t seem in great shape. After 45 minutes she finally trusted us enough to let us get her into the van. We made a stop at a nearby Walmart for food and a leash and collar, and then booked a dog-friendly hotel that night to bathe her. The next day we took her to a vet clinic. She was severely dehydrated, malnourished, already had a litter of puppies, was likely abused and dumped, and later hit by a car. The doctor said she’s about 8 months old.
We originally planned to get her to good health and find her a good home, but over the course of our road trip we fell in love with her. She began to trust us more and more everyday and her personality started to shine through. We had a few nights of conversation planning to give her up that ended with us in tears, so we decided she’d be a great addition to our family. After driving over 2,000 miles, we welcomed home Dot. She adjusted pretty quickly to her new life in Massachusetts with her two older pup siblings, Mabel and June (who fell in love with her like we did).
After arriving home, we scheduled Dot an appointment with our vet for a more comprehensive examination. After a series of x-rays, they found that she had been shot and has a shotgun pellet lodged inside of her (which they are unable to recover). They also found that she suffers a broken pelvis and a torn ACL from being hit by a car. While she already doesn’t use this leg to walk or run, if it goes uncorrected, she will also develop degenerative arthritis. The cost of the surgery plus the physical therapy is $7,500. The surgery will be scheduled in one month to give her time to heal from her spay surgery (which took place 10/21) and to finish her course of treatment for Anaplasmosis.
It breaks our heart that this sweet girl has endured so much pain in her short life, and we want to give her the best life going forward. We know this year has been tough on so many financially, but any amount you can give to help Dot would be immensely appreciated.
