Help Sally kick cancer's butt
My name is Tim and my best friend Sally has breast cancer.
What started as a small lump discovered at Christmas time 2020 was quickly found to be the dreaded big C, and so Sal started on a course of chemotherapy (I tagged along each week and we documented it all in a series of hilarious Youtube videos because we've been laughing together for over 25 years and a life threatening illness ain't gonna stop us now!)
The last six months has been a really tough road for her (and her husband Nick and daughter Polly), but through it all Sal has always managed to maintain her smile.
She smiled while they injected her with toxic cancer-killing chemicals.
She smiled when she lost her hair.
She smiled as we discovered the perils of wig glue.
And today, as I sat by her bedside in the hospital, she smiled as she talked me through the double mastectomy surgery she endured yesterday. She even smiled as she looked down and noticed with a giggle that her belly looks larger now in the absence of her breasts.
Through it all, our dear Sally has smiled. And that smile seems to light up the world.
Behind that smile I know there is a fair amount of worry and fear, concern for the future and anxiety about what's coming next. Sal has spent the past few months researching every supplementary treatment she could undertake to ensure she has the best chance of kicking cancer's butt, and it breaks my heart when she tells me with her usual smile how prohibitively expensive and therefore out of reach these treatments are. Today we talked of how good it would be for her to get counselling to help her deal with the trauma of losing her breasts, but that costs money too.
I love my best friend, and I want to do everything I can to help her punch cancer in its ugly face. If you know Sally - if you've ever spent even ten minutes in her radiant presence - then I know you'll want to help her too.
I've started this page in an effort to raise $5000 to help Sally seek all the treatment and support she needs to get her through this challenging cancer journey. She'd never ask for this help herself - she's only ever interested in helping others - but this time she deserves to be the one being helped.
If you love Sal and want to help by making a donation, I'd be forever grateful.
