Help Sally Fight to live!

My mom has cancer.

Four words that make me choke as they roll out of my throat. Words that scare all of our family, as we now face this nightmarish reality. We know there is a tumor in her breast, and we know it is a very, very rare type, called Neuroendocrine Carcinoma. We are currently waiting on PET scans, MRIs, CT scans, etc...to know what exactly she is fighting. We hope and pray it is isolated to her breast, and that the treatments will be effective.

This type of cancer is called a "zebra," because it is exotic, rare, and unique...and doctors often misdiagnose it because they think they are looking for horses, and don't really think it might be a zebra. Because it is rare, the treatments are not as researched as more common types. The expense of these treatments looks like a terrifying mountain that we are unequipped to climb. This fundraiser is to help her to pay the medical bills she is about to face.

Sally has spent her life caring for her children, grandchildren, and now her 99 year old mother. She lives on a very meager retirement income, barely making ends meet...and yet she is the one who steps up to the plate whenever anyone needs her. She has offered up her home, her food, her time and energy, her skills, and her heart. She has been there through thick and thin, and now she needs US, all of us, to help her at this uncertain and frightening time.

I am, Linnea, her third out of four children. I have watched my mom struggle my entire life, yet she has always found a way to keep us going. When my 2nd child was diagnosed with Down syndrome, I was so scared and so worried....and she never left my side through it all. She has been his biggest champion and helped me to be the best advocate for him. She became another parent to my kids, and they need her more than you can imagine!! We all need her...she is the lifeblood of our family.

I have been able to subsidize her income a bit over the years, but I cannot do this all alone. She desperately needs the funds to pay the inevitable medical bills that will come with this battle. Anything and everything helps! She is currently the full-time, live-in caregiver to my 99 year old grandmother, and hasn't even been to bed in her own house in almost a year. She has been under a huge amount of stress, and I would love to relieve her of some of the financial stress this will add to her and all of us.

I already lost my dad to cancer. I've lost many, many friends to it as well. I am absolutely terrified and I know my Momma is, too. I have done my best to face the realities of raising a disabled child, and to fight everyday for my family without asking for much, but this time I have to ask for help.

We need help. My kids need their Grammy. If you are able to spare any donation, I promise you it will go to a very deserving person, who means the world to us. Let's give Sally hope and the means to fight as hard as she can as she faces the biggest challenge of her life!!
