Hi everyone,
I never thought I’d be in this position, but I’m reaching out because my beloved German Shepherd, Saint, needed an emergency life-saving surgery yesterday for GDV (gastric dilatation-volvulus)—commonly known as bloat. This condition is deadly if not treated immediately. He already has a preexisting medical condition since birth called megaesophagus that affects his day to day life during feedings.
Early yesterday morning, I found Saint whimpering in pain. His abdomen was swollen, and his gums were pale from lack of blood flow. My heart dropped. I rushed him to every local emergency vet I could find, but I was turned away multiple times because they were at capacity. I finally found a clinic in the Bay Area near Torrance, but even then, they could only do an initial workup before transferring us to their sister hospital in Culver City for surgery.
The surgery was successful, and Saint is fighting so hard to recover, but the costs are overwhelming. His medical expenses are about $19000, and while I have pet insurance, it will only cover up to $7,500 (if approved). That still leaves me with a financial burden I wasn’t prepared for.
Saint isn’t just a pet—he’s my literal fur baby, goober and son. I’ve cut his umbilical cord after birth and have had him for 4 wonderful years. He’s goofy, full of personality, and the closest thing to being a parent that I’ve ever experienced. I didn’t think twice about getting him the care he needed, no matter the cost.
The reality of the situation kicked in and the medical expenses are a bit overwhelming. I hate asking for help, but right now, I’m desperate. Every dollar counts and goes directly toward Saint’s hospital bills and recovery care. If you can donate, I would be forever grateful. If you can’t, please consider sharing this with friends and family to help us reach more people.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for reading and supporting Saint. He means the world to me, and your kindness will help give him a second chance at life.
Kenneth & Saint
