I’m sharing this on behalf of my dear friend Sahil Sharma, who is just 26 years old and facing one of the hardest battles of his life — and he’s doing it without his family by his side.

Sahil came to Canada full of hope and dreams, working hard to support his loved ones back in India. He’s the kind of person who shows up for others — always helping out at the Radha-Krishna Temple in Cambridge, and always with a smile.

But in May, things took a sudden and scary turn.

Sahil collapsed with severe stomach pain and difficulty breathing. He was rushed to Grand River Hospital in Cambridge, where doctors gave him heartbreaking news:

Both of his kidneys were failing. His lungs were swollen. His life was at risk.

Far from home and terrified, Sahil made the hard choice to return to India for urgent care. A kind soul helped cover his flight, and he was admitted to DMC Hospital in Ludhiana, where he spent 28 days in the hospital, going through tests, biopsies, and painful treatments.

His diagnosis:

IgA Nephropathy – a serious autoimmune disease that’s destroying his kidneys.

His biopsy shows 63% of his kidney filters are already permanently damaged.

Now, to stay alive, he has to go to the hospital four days a week for treatment.

Each visit costs around ₹5,300 (about $85 CAD) for injections alone — and that doesn’t include medications, blood work, or hospital fees. His family has already spent everything they had. The costs are piling up fast, and they can’t keep up.
