Hi, I'm Safir. In 2022, a motorbike accident changed my life, and I became a full-time wheelchair user.
Since then, I've used both manual and powered wheelchairs. One everyday challenge I've come to know well is the cold. Cold hands, controls and the parts of the chair we touch can make getting out and about harder.
That experience gave me an idea: could heating built into a wheelchair help make cold days easier? I started Safir Innovations Ltd in Scotland to explore it. Now I'm asking for help to take the next steps.
My hope is to turn a problem from my own life into something useful for other wheelchair users.
What I'm working on
I'm developing wheelchair heating, starting with the hand and control area of powered chairs, while also exploring uses for manual wheelchairs. I've tried an early version for myself, filed a UK patent application and gathered feedback from other wheelchair users and people working in care.
There's still a lot to do. The idea needs more engineering and safety testing before it could become a product. In time, I'd like to work with established wheelchair manufacturers to develop it together or let them use the technology under a licence.
The first step:
• professional patent work
• international patent application.
• related filing and drawing costs.
The next step: engineering and safety testing
This fundraiser supports Safir Innovations Ltd, my private limited business. Donations aren't a product purchase or an investment, and I can't promise a finished product, a patent grant or a launch date yet.
If you'd like to help, a donation of any size or simply sharing this page would mean a lot. Thank you for reading my story and helping me work towards warmer, easier days for wheelchair users.
