HELP SAFIATOU BARRY GO TO HOWARD UNIVERSITY

Tax deductible

Safiatou Barry is an amazingly accomplished, lovely, smart, thoughtful, funny and kind high school graduate. She is a first generation American, raised by her brilliant mom, Mariama Diallo, who immigrated from Guinea. Safi got into almost every college she applied to. Most importantly, she got into her first choice, Howard University, where she plans to be a business major and study cryptocurrency.

Due to one of the many unfair ways in which the system works, Safi only qualified for loans, save for $5,000 in scholarship money. Mariama makes just over the cutoff point that would’ve given Safi a full ride via financial aid. With the scholarship money, the tuition has gone from $48,000 a year down to $43,000 (not including food, books, travel). That’s a lot of loans to saddle for years after graduation. Mariama, who put herself through college and graduate school (after immigrating from Guinea), already has her own student loans to pay off. She doesn’t want Safi to have to struggle with this kind of debt load. We are asking for $35,000 so that loans for Safi’s first year are manageable. However, WE MUST GET TO $16,500 BY AUGUST 7TH, when her first payment is due. Please help Safi make her dreams come true!

This GoFundMe is being hosted by Succeed2Gether, a local nonprofit that offers free tutoring services to the community. Safi was a tutor to younger children at this program for years. That's how she met Arielle Eckstut and David Henry Sterry who helped found a college prep program, Pathways Forward, at Succeed2gether. Safi was one of their first two students. One of the unique missions of this program is to stick with the student through college. That's why we are committed to helping Safi find other scholarships for years 2-4. In the meantime, we need YOU. We welcome all donations. If you’ve got $5, great. That’ll be a delicious breakfast sandwich that Safi can eat on her way to class. $3500 would be a financial boon that would take 10% right off the top. Donations go to Succeed2Gether, but 100% of the money will go to Safi’s tuition. And because your donation goes to a nonprofit, it will be tax deductible.
