Help Safia Heal After the Loss of Her Beloved Mother

Hi, my name is Nick and I’m organizing this fundraiser on behalf of someone very close to me who is currently facing one of the most devastating and difficult chapters of her life.

Safia's beloved "Mum", Yvonne - affectionately known as Yve, suddenly passed away on the morning of April 15th 2025 (NZST) in Auckland, New Zealand at the age of 76.

A celebration of her life was held on Thursday, April 24th (NZST) - but Safia wasn't able to be there. Due to financial challenges and reasons outside of her control, Safia was unable to travel home to attend her mother’s funeral in person; she instead had to watch the service that she lovingly and meticulously planned remotely — from thousands of miles away. No daughter should have to say goodbye like that.

️Yvonne’s Legacy

Yvonne was more than just a mother - she was a source of daily love, strength and unwavering support to her two daughters, Safia in particular. Despite living in different hemispheres for over a decade, Safia and her Mum shared a very special and unbreakable bond, sharing all aspects of life with each other and speaking nearly every day on the phone. As Safia would be quick to tell you, they were best friends.

Yvonne was a radiant, charismatic woman who exuded warmth and compassion. Even while battling chronic health conditions in recent years and fighting a long and excruciating battle against Stage 4 Cancer during the pandemic - something Safia had shared with very few people, she remained selfless, generous, and full of humor always. She gave so much to so many - family, friends, neighbors, strangers and even to myself and my family. There were times when she had very little for herself and still she would send birthday gifts, holiday cards and handwritten letters filled with love across the world. Thoughtful and loving to a fault; that’s just who Yve was.

Whether you were fortunate enough to know Yvonne personally or not, Safia was her world and what she would want more than anything is for people to rally around her in this time of need. Safia, like her mother, is a very strong and resilient person and not one to ask for help even in times of need - but she needs us now. Your support will help ease the weight of Safia's grief, in turn giving back to a woman who spent her life giving to others.
