As some of you know, I’ve been feeding and taking care of a small colony of neighborhood cats on my street for the past few years. You may have even adopted a cat or two from me! It’s been a long process of trapping and fixing so that there are no more feral kittens born out of this colony.

The patriarch of the crew is Sad Eyes—a patient, plodding senior cat who keeps watch over the block and the other kitties in the colony. He got his name because of his big round saucer eyes that look like he’s pleading for a meal (even though he gets two full meals a day…and maybe more from other neighbors). When there have been new kittens on the block Sad Eyes always takes them under his wing, letting the cuddle up and nap with him. All the cats love a Sad Eyes-adjacent nap (see exhibits below)

A few months ago Sad Eyes’ eye started looking…extra sad. We were finally able to get him to the vet and his eye is damaged beyond repair and needs to be removed. They also found a few rotten teeth they recommended removing as well.

They can remove both the eye and the teeth in one go but the procedure(s) will cost an estimated $2000. I’m looking to raise some money to help me cover the cost of the surgery if you would like to contribute to help make Sad Eyes a little less sad and minus one eye.
