Help Sabrina with her Medical Care
Donation protected
Hello! This fundraiser is to help Sabrina cover her medical needs. Here is her story:
I am Sabrina. I am 38 years old. I live in Paradise, Ca and am a Campfire Survivor. I am a single mom of a beautiful daughter. For most of my life I have dealt with digestive issues. I have sever allergies and it started to get worse around 3 years ago. I started to have trouble swallowing and I kept feeling like I was having acid reflux. But I was wrong. After multiple tests my local GI found that there was definitely something abnormal going on. But my issues were "out of the scope" of my doctor. Referrals were sent out all over the north state. After a year of suffering I was able to be seen by a specialist. I was finally diagnosed with "Esophageal Dysmotility". I was shocked and comforted by this diagnosis. As time went by, I slowly stopped tolerating solid food. This was the beginning of my downfall. I could only swallow small bits of soft foods, smoothies and liquids. Unfortunately, this did not provide enough nutrients or calories that I needed. My body was being compromised. Then in July of this year, I could not keep anything in my digestive track and sometimes there was blood. Scary, right? I was losing weight quickly. My specialist doctor is 3.5 hours away and can't really oversee all of my care. I still cannot find a local GI to help me. I was doing zoom doctor appointments and traveling to the bay area to see my Dr. I began to deteriorate quickly. Then on October 15th, I began vomiting blood uncontrollably. I couldn't move from the floor. Luckily my daughter was at a sleepover and did not see me in this state. My friend called 911 and I was rushed to Enloe. Within 24 hours a PEG tube was surgically placed in my stomach. This is how I will receive nutrition for the rest of my life. I weighed 89 pounds at the hospital. I spend 9 days at Enloe.
Now, I feed myself through the tube. This requires cleaning and lots of supplies to up keep this safely. My insurance covers the nutrition but not medical supplies. I need a lot of supplies. I am on disability and I can barely afford rent, bills and to feed my child. I am usually an independent person but this has taken me down. I know this is a tough time for everyone but I really can use all the help I can get. I need to care for myself and this feeding tube properly so I can avoid going back to the hospital.
