Paying For Meds For My Blind, Diabetic Sabrina
Donation protected
Hi,
My name is Sabrina and my human's name is Larry Walsh. A lot of people in the vintage trailer hobby, and on You Tube know him as Mobiltec. We live alone in Northern Nevada and I recently developed diabetes. The diabetes eventually caused me to develop cataracts in both eyes, so now I am blind. My human is a 70-year-old Vet with no family, and I really do love him. But it's going to be very hard for him to care for a blind dog here for the remainder of my life. We're not wealthy and have little money to live on. Larry has to work in order to pay the mortgage and the bills.

From Larry...
The good people in Reno, Nevada at the Eye Care For Animals Clinic gave me an estimate of $7,200.00 for the prep and surgery. $1200 of that is for prep work and testing. But two days after she was accepted as a candidate for cataract surgery, she developed glaucoma. This put an end to the idea of Sabrina seeing again.
There are only two ways to deal with glaucoma if the drops don't work. One is to remove the eyeballs completely and sew up her lids. The other is to inject antibiotics into the eyeballs which kills the eyes. We chose the latter. But so far, even with three different kinds of drops going into her eyes twice a day, the pressure in her eyes is still too high. So now I have two remaining choices..... One is to have her eyes removed which would end the problem for sure. The other is to put her down. I refuse to put my dog down as long as there are other alternatives.
At this point, I have gone through the first $4000 of this fundraiser for procedures, vet visits and medications including very expensive eye drops. This is on top of the cost of syringes and insulin for diabetes. A visit to the vet averages between $75 to $150. I also have to test her blood with a Gluco Tester. The supplies include lancets to get the blood and the test strips. The lancets are fairly inexpensive but the test strips are $1 each. 50 of them are used up pretty quickly.
As you can see the costs of keeping my dog alive are mounting and everything is just getting more and more expensive. Other than the diabetes which I am managing, she is pretty darned healthy for a 10 year old dog. She's learning to get around with her nose instead of her eyes and we are planning on going camping again this summer.
So if you love dogs and you can spare a few bucks to help me keep my Sabrina alive, I would really appreciate it and will post photos and stories of our lives together right here and on my website and you tube channel. Thanks so much for your love. I hope to bring you photos and videos of us enjoying the outdoors again soon.
