Many of you may know Bert and Paula from their time as small business owners of the local bakery. Some of you know them as my parents, and yet some of you know them as Rylie’s humans. To know Bert and Paula is to know they are animal lovers, and that they love their dog Rylie as much as anyone can love man’s best friend.

Rylie is an ever-eager dog. She loves playing fetch, whether that be in the yard or at the dog park. She’s always ready for adventure, whether that be to the mountains or to the local ACE Hardware to pick up supplies. Rylie makes friends everywhere she goes. She loves to sit and shake for your treats and is happy to be a fluffy friend for anyone in need.

All of this is what made the 17th of April so alarming. Rylie wasn’t eating and had begun throwing up water. Paula took her to Bozeman’s Bridger Vet Emergency Center, where it was discovered that she was in diabetic ketoacidosis. She had to stay for observation for further tests. Those tests revealed she also had severe pancreatitis with peritonitis. Additionally, her copper hepatopathy had worsened, and she had a slew of secondary problems.

Rylie was finally able to go home Saturday, the 26th, but not after racking up a hefty vet bill. That’s where you come in.
