My name is Ric. Myself, my sister Tanya and my mother Clara, along with our families, have organized this fundraiser to help offset medical costs and all that comes with it. Please read Rylans story below as written by her mother Nicole. PLEASE SHARE.
I haven’t posted what’s been going on with my daughter Rylan but a lot of my close family, friends and work family know what’s been going
It started more than a week ago. Rylan had stomach cramps she wasn’t feeling well. Then she started puking and couldn’t keep anything down and was in a lot of pain. It was Tuesday at 6:30 am last week when she woke me up. I said OK i’ll take you to the doctors. But our doctor didn’t open up until 9 AM so I went to urgent care. She was sent home with a diagnosis of a stomach virus which at this point could have been however no one else in the house has it and I heard it was highly contagious. it was a Saturday and I called urgent care because our primary doctor was closed and we got called back to give her Zofran to help with the nausea.
Three days later she was even worse. I was getting ready for work getting ready to leave and I took one look at her and I knew something was extremely wrong. I could just see it in her eyes. that morning I called our primary doctor again And they got us right in. They did some lab work on her and in about five minutes later I was told I need to take her to the ER. We went to the ER, and they were extremely busy and we had to wait three hours to be seen. It’s not their fault like I said they were extremely busy and they were doing the best they could. As soon as we were seen they started giving Rylan an IV drip to replace fluids that she had loss. And then we were given a room. She had lots of tests done a CT scan and lots of bloodwork. It was told to us that we needed to go by ambulance to the pediatric ER center of Albany med. The both of us looked at each other and I started to shake and she started to panic because I was shaking so I tried as hard as I could to calm down and I reached out to a few people who knew how to call me down.
The ambulance ride down was sort of trippy but Shannon, our driver promised she would get us there safely and she did. when we got there they already had a team assembled to take Rylan off the ambulance and put her in a room already for her with medication that she would already need. There was already doctors ready to assess her situation. They knew right away she needed surgery and she needed it that night. When it was time for her to go up I don’t think I’ve ever been so scared. we met the surgical team and the surgical Doctor Who would be performing the operation and at that moment I was scared shit out of my mind. She told me And Rylan that she had done over 5000 surgeries like this and they all came out just fine. She explained in detail what she would have to do or maybe possibly do.
April 13th- The surgery took most three hours. When she came out she told us that it looks like a bomb exploded in Rylan‘s stomach and it was a mess and she had to flush it out and keep flushing out all the poison. She also said that her appendix had ruptured and it happened days ago so she has been living with this poison in her body. She told us it would be at least five days that we would be at the hospital for recovery because she may have to go back in and flush more. Since that time there’s been several things that I wouldn’t call setbacks but came up that were unexpected. Things have popped up but they’re being addressed and they are being addressed properly. She still has pain is still hard for her to walk and she has a long road ahead of her.
I have the best support system in the entire planet. I’ve been sitting here for three nights by myself watching my child drift in and out asleep and my mind goes crazy with the What Ifs. And when I say by myself I mean in her room because there was only one person allowed. There were several family members willing and wanting to be in that room as well. What really hit home was when I saw her surgeon today for a check up and she told me straight up, this was one of the worst appendix ruptures she has ever seen. And remember I told you she’s done over 5000. I truly believe Rylan is Lucky to be alive today. And it took several people to make that happen including all the people who have supported us through this journey. And it’s still going on we are still here. She is not completely out of the woods.
Today: April 16- Rylan went into surgery for a bruise on her torso which turned out to be dead tissue. Thankfully her muscles are still alive and the tissue was removed today. They also went back into her stomach and she had more fluid and pus so they put a drain in her belly to help. She is in ICU and sedated until her surgery tomorrow where they will take out any remains and make sure they did for all of todays tissue. We will be here for a couple of more weeks to get her back to good health.
I guess what I wanna say is I’ve never been so scared so exhausted I haven’t slept in days I don’t ever felt so guilty because maybe I should’ve taken her to the ER I’ve never felt like this before. But what I can take from this is no matter what happens to life, we have to fight and we can’t do it alone and it’s OK sometimes to admit that you’re scared. And I just want to thank everyone who’s been there for everything and I know a lot of you would have if you have known but this was a battle and I just couldn’t publicly post about it every single day. I’m gonna share some pictures now. Not all that I took but some might be hard to see.
But she’s a true fighter and I want to show that. Please pray for my baby girl.
