Hi, my name is Deb Lass-Brown, with my husband Nate Brown, and we are trying to raise funds for our dog Rye. He is a 3-year-old Black Mouth Cur mix who we adopted from Dolly's Legacy Animal Rescue when he was only 3 months old. He instantly became part of the family and really helped our elderly Great Dane who was fighting stomach cancer at the time. Even though she is no longer with us, Rye remains an amazing dog with so much love to give everyone. He is almost inseparable from our vision-impaired 5-year-old Shepherd mix, Gotti, and has a true loving connection with both our cats, Damia and Tsunami.
He started having seizures last summer with an unknown cause. According to our personal vet and the emergency vet we took him to, they were thinking he may have epilepsy since he is in the right age range for that to start. After almost a year of trying different drug interventions, his seizures have only mildly decreased, and we are now being referred to get him scans and different tests done to see if there are other factors, like if he could have a brain tumor. The scans and diagnostics alone can cost thousands, and my husband and I have state-funded jobs working with people who have disabilities, so we could use any financial assistance available for Rye's future treatments.
At the moment, we aren't aware of how much or what diagnostics will be needed, but we have an initial consultation with VCA Animal Hospital in Omaha, NE, on April 22nd, 2025, and will know more specifics about his care needs at that time. We will continue to update this information as we get it. We appreciate any financial assistance that can be offered with his diagnostics and continued life care. We hope to be able to give him the best and longest life possible.
