Ryan has been diagnosed with an aggressive, fast growing Stage 4 Colon cancer that has metastasized to his liver. Today we saw an Oncologist who presented us with some devastating news. The cancer in the liver is inoperable and he feels that chemotherapy will be of little use and he could offer no other options. He gave a prognosis of 12 months to live and told Ryan to get his affairs in order.
We have learned of a cancer treatment called immunotherapy. It has had remarkable success helping patients with the same type of cancer as Ryan. It is a breakthrough treatment being done in the Princess Margaret in Canada and at the Mayo clinic & most other major Cancer Centers in the USA.

I want to give Ryan the best chance to beat this, I want to get him into the program that offers him the best chance for success. Please help my son beat this terrible disease.
Ryan started to suffer from stomach pains and cramps, illness and tiredness in December 2018. He knew something was wrong because of the pain he was suffering. He attempted to get help many times including several trips to emergency unfortunately the doctors attributed it to flu or constipation and continually sent him home.
On the weekend of April 5, 2019 while at a show, he became very ill ending up in hospital on April 8, 2019 with a suspected blocked bowel. After x-rays, Doctors again decided to send him home with laxatives. However, the family doctor on viewing the x-rays was convinced there was a blockage and a colonoscopy was ordered. On April 22nd, the doctor doing the colonoscopy was shocked to find that Ryan's bowel was completely blocked with an apple core tumor. Realizing that Ryan was in serious condition, he was admitted to hospital.
Surgery was done on Apr 25 to resect the bowel and remove the tumor. The surgery was a success and the surgeon was able to remove the tumor entirely. However, it was discovered that the cancer had already metastasized to the liver.
May 4, saw Ryan admitted to hospital again, unfortunately the doctors determined that the problem was in the liver and that the particular cancer that is attacking Ryan is aggressive and fast growing. On a positive note, no cancer was detected outside of the liver.
On May 10, Ryan saw his liver specialist. He informed Ryan that he is not a candidate for surgical removal of the cancer in his liver. People can have up to 80% of their liver removed and still function with 20%. Unfortunately, the cancer is in more than 80%. He was told that the plan is to start chemo and shrink the tumors enough so they can then be surgically removed.
Ryan’s Oncologist stated that Chemotherapy will be of little value in Ryan’s case. He stated that there was little that could be done to help him here in Alberta.
Ryan is a fighter, determined to the end like his terriers. He believes that with the right care and a strong faith in God he can beat this. He needs options, he needs second and third opinions and he needs your help. We cannot afford to do this on our own. This is going to be an expensive fight but we will give it everything we have.
