Ruth is a 72-year-old widow originally from Brazil, who has recently experienced a devastating loss. She came to America to be close to her daughter and to start fresh after losing her husband of 43 years. After a tragic house fire, on 1/19 (just a day before her birthday), destroyed nearly everything she owned, she now finds herself starting over with nothing. Ruth, who speaks little to no English and doesn’t drive, is currently living with her daughter and son-in-law while she tries to rebuild her life. Despite the challenges, she works part-time at Hobby Lobby, her only source of income, as she still needs to work for four more years before qualifying for Social Security.
A dedicated member of the Hispanic Group at University-Parkway Seventh-day Adventist Church, Ruth’s faith and community, along with her caring neighbors and loving family, provide her with much-needed support during this difficult time. However, the journey to recover from the fire is overwhelming, and she still needs help to refurnish her home and rebuild what was lost. Ruth is grateful for any assistance as she navigates this challenging chapter of her life, hoping to regain stability and independence once again.
