Hi, my name is Ruth, and I’m raising funds to get my car repaired so I can return to work and help my dog, Kessy, enjoy life again.
Kessy is a six-year-old yellow Labrador with boundless energy and a love for adventure. One of my greatest joys is taking him to Folsom Lake, the beach, the dog park—he lights up every time we head out. For years, I dreamed of getting a car so we could enjoy these outings together again.
After 4.5 years of relying on friends and neighbors for rides, I was finally able to purchase a 2013 Subaru Outback in January. I did hours of research and was approved for financing—a miracle, given that I’d lost my home and gone through bankruptcy. It felt like a new beginning.
Unfortunately, just two months later, the car started making concerning noises. Mechanics diagnosed a front differential issue and eventually uncovered transmission damage. A warranty claim was filed, but the coverage has fallen dramatically short—only a portion of the labor costs and a transmission replacement are covered, not the engine repairs. The cost to fix everything exceeds $12,000.
I paid $8,000 for the car, which I haven’t had access to in four months. Yet I’m still making payments while juggling work as a substitute teacher in my community. Without a working vehicle, I can't reliably get to job assignments—or give Kessy the life he deserves.
I’ve filed a complaint with the Department of Insurance and tried every possible avenue for assistance. Now, I’m asking for help. Every dollar raised will go directly toward repairs and recovery of this essential vehicle.
Thank you for taking the time to read our story. Your support means the world to both of us.
Ruth
