Help Ruth Ernst rebuild!

Our friend/classmate Ruth Ernst is a resident and business owner in St. Johns, USVI, which is generally not a bad thing.  But the Island recently took a direct hit from Hurricane Irma which has caused enormous damage to the island.  While Ruth has gotten word out that she, her husband and their dogs are OK, her home and business both took the full force of the storm - the Grateful Shed took a short strange trip to the neighbor's driveway.  I don't know if she's been able to get to St. John's Spice yet.  Power, phone and internet on the Island are all touch and go right now, but I will update this page as I am able toRuth's business is on the second floor of the brick building you can just see on the left.

Obviously, the damage inflicted by this massive storm is going to take years to recover from.  After discussing this with Ruth's brother Bob, I am starting this appeal to provide Ruth with some help in getting back on her feet again.  Ruth and her family where part of many people's Exeter experience, since you couldn't swing a dead cat without hitting an Ernst around the  school, and I am sure there are plenty of foodies out there who are going to be waiting for the return of the spice shop  while they eat their bland meals.  Until we are able to establish better lines of communication with Ruth, her brother Bob is going to assist with figuring out how she can access the funds raised - please don't delay in giving in the meantime, as your donations can stay safely tucked away in the GoFundMe vaults until Bob can work out the best way to get them to her.  I know there is a lot of suffering going on in a lot of places right now, but even a small donation will help.  If you can't donate, you can always share this page via any social media accounts - a little help from a lot of people can quickly add up.  I have set a preliminary goal at $75000 just because I needed a number, but I'm sure it is going to be some time before Ruth is going to have any kind of figures about the rebuild costs and the business losses are going to be ongoing for some time, so every dollar will help.  Please check back often, as I will try to update this page any time I can get direct information from Ruth.  Thanks for reading and giving!U
