Meet Ruth (22), Meilin (5) and Darell (19 months)!
Ruth is seeking asylum here in Santa Rosa.
Our congregation is helping her get the basics they need.
In June, Ruth and her kids arrived in the U.S. to seek asylum. The next month, they came to us! The Unitarian Universalist Congregation in Santa Rosa has formed a circle of care and support to help them feel welcome and get what Ruth's family needs to resettle as they pursue their case for asylum.
Ruth and her kids are from Honduras. They have been fleeing violence. To say this family has been through a lot is a vast understatement. What they have experienced includes much of what many of us have been seeing in the U.S in the media.
Ruth and her kids traveled on top of a train many, many miles on their journey to get to the U.S. Their trip to this country was harrowing. It was dangerous. But so was the alternative -- staying in Honduras.
Meilin and Darell’s dad was separated from the family at the border. Ruth and her kids have been on a journey of immense faith and perseverance to get this far. Eventually, Ruth and her entire family are seeking to be together again as a family. To be safe. To be reunified.
This family is immensely resilient. Without the support of a community, however, they would be unable to pursue their path to legal asylum, start healing from the trauma, and build a life here. Their case is strong. We believe it is possible to help keep this family together and in the US.
Ruth and her kids are being supported by our Unitarian Universalist Congregation Borders and Beyond Group. We will not let them fall through the cracks. We believe in Ruth and her kids. We are helping her attain urgently needed basics like safe housing, food and medical care, as well as vital legal counsel to help navigate the immigration system and seek a pathway to asylum.
In addition to the legal resources for Ruth and her kids here, we are raising money for Meilin and Darell's dad’s legal case while he waits in Mexico to see what his options are.
Meilin will soon start school. You should see the smile on her face!
Friends, we hope you will find hope in helping Ruth's family!
Will you join us in this effort? EVERY penny can make a difference right now. You can make a direct, personal, crucial impact in the life of this family.
OUR GOAL: We are raising $12,000.00 cover urgent legal aid, medical care and other vital necessities that can help this family get their footing here in the US. If we exceed our goal to raise what this family needs, additional funds go to other asylum-seeking families, like Ruth's, in our area.
All funds are administered by the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Santa Rosa’s Borders & Beyond Family Fund.
Thank you! Thank you for making a direct difference in the life of this family and other families like Ruth's here in the North Bay. May love and practical care surround us all!
Thanks in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to us.
