On March 1st, Rusty’s life changed in an instant. After struggling to breathe and suffering from dangerously low oxygen levels, he was rushed to the emergency room. Doctors quickly realized the situation was critical and performed an emergency tracheostomy to save his life and create an airway so he could breathe. At that moment, our family knew something was seriously wrong, but we had no idea what was coming next. Over the following weeks, doctors ran tests and searched for answers. Then, on April 3rd—Rusty’s 53rd birthday—our family received devastating news. Rusty was officially diagnosed with laryngeal cancer (cancer of the voice box).

Doctors discovered that a tumor had wrapped around one side of his vocal cords, restricting his airway and making it impossible for him to breathe normally. Further testing revealed that the cancer had also spread to both lymph nodes in his neck, turning an already terrifying diagnosis into the fight of his life. Since that day, Rusty has faced hospital stays, procedures, specialist appointments, and the emotional and physical challenges that come with battling cancer. Through it all, he has remained determined to keep fighting.

Anyone who knows Rusty knows that he is much more than a cancer patient. He is a father, a friend, a hardworking man, an animal lover, and someone who has always shown up for the people he cares about. Whether he was spending time on the water, making memories with family, or lending a helping hand, Rusty has always put others before himself. Now he needs our help. The costs associated with cancer treatment, hospital care, medications, travel expenses, rehabilitation, and lost income continue to grow.
