hi ! i’m Lane, & this is my sweet 2y/o russian blue cat named RuPaul

At the end of May, I got up in the middle of the night to find him in the hallway of my apartment sitting in a pool of blood I immediately rushed him to the emergency vet and found that he had a massively inflamed bladder due to a urinary blockage. He was thankfully successfully unblocked without surgery but had to be hospitalized for several days.

Then, the first week of June, I had to say goodbye to one of my other cats after she received a terminal diagnosis & rapidly declined

A few days later, I noticed RuPaul straining to go to the bathroom and more dark red blood in his urine so I rushed him straight back to the emergency vet. This time there was a very significant buildup of sediment in his urine and his bladder was extremely inflamed, both of which were contributing to the blood and pain he was experiencing. Sadly, the vet informed me that our other baby’s passing likely made him very stressed and triggered another episode.

To keep this from happening again, he’ll need a specialized surgery called a Perineal Urethrostomy very soon (within the next week or so at the latest), along with a prescription diet that was started immediately.

The surgery itself will cost $2000-3000, on top of the ~$4500 in bills from his visits to the emergency clinic.

I had in fact signed him up for pet insurance right before all of this, but, unfortunately his first emergency occurred during the 14 day waiting period before coverage kicked in. Thus, any urinary tract issues he has going forward are/will be considered part of a pre-existing condition and will not be covered by his insurance.

With these continuously mounting vet bills, expenses from treatment for my other cat who recently passed, and having to move soon (on top of the my own health issues) I am in need of help from my community to recover financially and afford the surgery that he desperately needs.
