Runar Jonsson has, after expressing his opinions about the products of Ulfhednar AS following a course in Iceland, been sued by Ulfhednar AS represented by the chairman of the board, Kurt Erik Bekkevold. Ulfhednar AS, through the law firm Danielsen, now demands compensation in the amount of NOK 300,000 from Runar, claiming that they have lost significant portions of their revenue due to these statements. We wish to assist Runar in covering the necessary legal expenses that, in our opinion, he unfairly incurs. The Case: The alleged defamatory and compensable statement against Ulfhednar AS is claimed to have been made orally by Runar in Icelandic during a course and shooting event in Iceland. Ulfhednar AS argues that the alleged statements, made orally in Icelandic and relayed by a third party in English, should be understood as implying that Ulfhednar AS operates with dishonest and manipulative business methods, including dishonest exploitation of shooting associations to promote their own products. Runar disputes that he made the alleged statement and that he made any defamatory remarks about Ulfhednar AS during the mentioned course in Iceland. Runar confirms that after the course in Iceland, in response to a question from a third party, he expressed his personal opinions about some of the products sold by Ulfhednar AS. Runar's statements in Iceland, which concerned his own assessments of Ulfhednar AS's products, are naturally covered by freedom of speech, as per the Constitution. Even the statements that the plaintiff claims Runar made would, correctly interpreted in the context he was in, fall well within freedom of speech. Plaintiff Ulfhednar AS has not provided evidence that the alleged decrease in turnover is related to the alleged statements made by Runar, in an oral exchange in a break room with only a few others present. There can be no basis for compensatory damages to a legal entity such as Ulfhednar AS under the circumstances. Runar has requested acquittal as he cannot see that he has done or said anything wrong.
