Help Rumiko - donation will go directly to them

My name is Saki McCarthy. Rumiko Hughes is one of my dearest friends and a survivor of 6 brain surgeries. She used to teach Yoga at LA Fitness, Core Power, and Total Woman and was very healthy and active till then... The money raised here will go straight to her and her husband. (If you feel more comfortable sending them a check, please see their POB address below.) Rumiko collapsed while she was teaching Yoga at LA Fitness about two years ago. Her brain was bleeding from “Intracranial hemorrhage from an arteriovenous malformation (AVM).” (Photo: Rumiko 3/30/2021) The doctors had to perform surgery to remove a part of her skull and cure her brain, then after the swelling of the brain was settled down in a few days, another surgery to insert the removed skull piece back into her head. However, her skull got infected and 8 months passed quickly while Rumiko was in and out of the surgery rooms. After all, Rumiko is not able to feel or control the left side of her body well. She still needs to be transported in a wheelchair most of the time. As their live-in helper moved out, John and Rumiko pushed themselves to live on their own. Rumiko learned to use her walker to get to the bathroom and back to her chair at home on her own at home, with a leg brace to keep her left ankle flexed. However, while John was at work, he saw her fall through the surveillance camera and rushed home. Rumiko was taken to the emergency room, and a small blood clot was found in her brain. Rumiko was released from ICU in one day, but she certainly needs to keep her head safe. (Photo: Rumiko is working hard to regain her strength!) Rumiko and John’s challenging journey continues for at least for several years if not for the rest of their lives. Hopefully it will work out!!!), medical insurance deductibles, and a trip to Japan. (It probably will be the last time Rumiko gets to see her father. Since March 30, 2021, John has been working non-stop altering their house for the wheelchair and physical therapy equipment, taking care of her, cooking and cleaning every day, on top of his work that provides them health insurance. They at first thought they'd be financially okay somehow without people helping them. But they are hitting the limit. Risako "Saki" McCarthy P.S., In case you would like to send a donation check, please make it payable to: John Hughes 1536 W. 25th Street #210 San Pedro, CA 90732 こんにちは、留美子さんの友人の咲です。これまでの2年以上、苦しい状況にありながらも金銭的な援助を皆さんから受けることをためらっていた留美子さんジョンさん夫婦なのですが、少しでもお二人に温かいサポートをいただければ幸いです。ここで集まる寄付金は全てヒューズ夫婦に直接送金されます。（チェックをお送りの際は、上の宛名と住所にお願いします。） 2021年3月30日、留美子さんはヨガのクラスで教えている最中に突然倒れて救急車で病院へ運ばれ、脳動静脈奇形（AVM）破裂による頭蓋内出血と診断されました。留美子さんが受けた最初の手術は、頭蓋骨の一部を取り除いて脳を治療。そして、脳の腫れが落ち着くのを数日待ってから行われた2回目の手術は頭蓋骨を頭に戻すというものでした。本来なら２ヶ月以内に全て終了していたはずが、頭に戻した部分の骨が膿んでしまい、人工的にその部分を造って入れたらまたそれが膿み、結局、入退院を繰り返している間に、半年があっという間に過ぎてしまいました。結果、リハビリが遅れてしまって片麻痺状態です。右脳に傷があるため左側の感覚がなく、左側にあるものを認識しづらいです。セラピストに従って訓練を行い、左腕は少しずつ良くなってきていますが、左足は自身の意思通りに動きません。移動の際には大体、車椅子に乗ってジョンさんが押しています。 ジョンさんは許される限り仕事を休んで看病していますが、会社から得ている収入と健康保険が必要なので、仕事を辞めるわけにはいきません。住み込みで家事などを手伝ってくれた女性がいたのですが、数週間前に引っ越して行ったのを機会に、お金をセーブするためにも何とか自分たちだけで生活しようと考えました。留美子さんは左足首を曲げておくための脚装具を付けて、歩行器を使って独りでトイレに行き来することに成功し、自立できそうに思えたその矢先、ジョンさんが仕事に行っている間に転倒。ジョンさんがモニター越しにそれを見て急いで家に帰りました。（会社にいる間はモニターで留美子さんを見守っています。）留美子さんは救急車で病院へ運ばれ、脳に小さな血栓が見つかりました。一晩ICUで過ごした後で退院することはできましたが、今後は頭を打たないように気をつけねばなりません。 このクラウドファンディングで集めたお金は、介護士を雇うための費用、医療費の自己負担額、そして、岩手県の老人施設にいらっしゃるお父様を訪問するための費用に使われる予定です。(お母様は、留美子さんが脳の手術を受けた時期に他界されました。) 留美子さんとジョンさんのチャレンジは、少なくとも数年間、もしかすると一生続きます。 ご親切なお気持ちで留美子さんとジョンさんにご寄付いただければ幸いです。 どうぞよろしくお願いいたします。 マッカーシー理咲子 （通称：咲）
