In Loving Memory of Rumi, Sapphire, and Hayden

It is with heavy hearts and tremendous sadness that we share the passing of three of our precious puppies — Rumi, Sapphire, and Hayden.

We wanted to take a moment to update our community, who has shown such incredible love and support over this past week since we first asked for help with Rumi. On October 19th, we took in nine puppies from a high-intake shelter. Sadly, eight of them tested positive for Parvo, a dangerous and fast-moving virus that can be devastating for young dogs.

All eight puppies received the new monoclonal antibody treatment, and our medical team — along with our amazing fosters — worked tirelessly to give them every possible chance at recovery. We’re grateful to share that five puppies have made a full recovery, are shedding the virus, and are now preparing for future adoption. ❤️

Unfortunately, despite every effort, Rumi, Sapphire, and Hayden developed complications from the virus that we were unable to overcome. Each of them spent time under veterinary and hospital care receiving treatments and support, surrounded by people who loved them deeply. While their time with us was far too short, we find comfort in knowing that they left this world in loving foster homes — not in a shelter — cared for and cherished until the very end.

To our incredible fosters, thank you for opening your hearts and homes, for holding these little ones close, and for showing them love when they needed it most. To our community, thank you for helping us fund their treatments and for always standing by our side in times of heartbreak and hope.

We will continue to accept donations to help cover the costs of their medical care and to support the ongoing needs of the puppies still recovering.

Though we grieve their loss, we honor Rumi, Sapphire, and Hayden’s short but meaningful lives. They will forever be a part of the WGSR family — and a reminder of why we fight so hard for every single life we can save. ️
