I'm starting this fundraiser because my mild and meek (NOT!) daughter-in-law (daughter really!) asked me to do this for her birthday, and her people. Her people are from Kawayan, Leyte, Philippines where she was born and raised until the ripe old age of 21 when she came to the U.S. to marry my son, Josh, after a whirlwind romance while he was visiting his friend who was stationed in her village with the Peace Corp. I relay her words here: "Hello All, I am writing to you today as my village is one of the areas currently coping with the aftermath of a catastrophic super typhoon called Opong, which has severely impacted everyone in the villages a week ago. This unprecedented typhoon has brought widespread flooding, severely limiting access to essential roads, water, and livelihoods. The people in my village never experienced something like this before, there has been many bad typhoons but nothing like this one. I am initiating this fundraiser in the hope that you will join me in providing support to my community during this challenging time. I kindly request donations in any amount, given with kindness and generosity." Last account was that her family home/village was without water because of mudslides wiping out pipes/roads and her siblings/cousins were working to hook them back up because crews could not pass through the roads.
